Excellent place to start your studying - but not the only book to study.

I used this for the PE, so it was a little overkill. Kind of made me nervous when it came to test day and almost all the problems were easier than I'd expected (I assumed they were all tricks, and I'd fail). But a decent collection of problems. If you really want to brush up on a particular type of question, though, you'll need more - there were only enough difference equation problems to inform me I needed to practice them, and not enough to actually practice them - but a good place to find at least one or two of any type of problem you could encounter, to guide further study. The missing 5th star is because there are a lot of problems in this book that, depending on your test, you'll never encounter - that's not made very clear in the front matter or in the sections themselves. So it's easy to scare yourself.

Helped me pass.

I used this book to review for my FE Exam more than the FE Review Manual because I was already cramming and I did not have much time, so I decided to just solve practice problems than review the theories. The questions are similar to the ones that I had in the exam, so I guess it is ok. Though you have to make sure that you are answering it within the allotted time, because the exam is time pressure and I almost did not finish the exam, even if I guessed a lot of questions.

A must have for anyone taking the FE

The key to passing the FE is all about working practice problems, and this book has them all. The problems are right in the line with the type of problems that you'll see on the exam, with a few others that will test your knowledge. If you can work these problems you'll do fine on the FE exam. Work every practice problem that you can get a hold of.

Attempts have been made to demonstrate how a user can solve the problems using simple computer-oriented programme. Emphasis is placed not only on solving the problems in various fields but also on drawing inferences from the problems. The importance of instruments and computers in research processes and statistical analyses along with their misuse/incorrect use is also discussed to make the user aware about the correct use of specific technique. About the Author
Dr. P K Sahu is an Associate Professor in Agricultural Statistics, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal, India. Dr Sahu has a bright academic career record with 1st class in all spheres of academic life and was also awarded with National Scholarship and Research Scholarship. Specialized in the field of Agricultural Statistics, he has worked in the Central University, North Eastern Hill University, Medziphama Campus; Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India before joining Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya as a faculty member. He has also worked as a guest faculty in the University of Calcutta, IISER, Kolkata. Due to his vast working experience in different agriculture and allied fields, he is aware of the various problems and needs of the students, researchers, and academia in various fields. He has authored four books, served as member of the Under Graduate and Post Graduate Council for Faculty of Agriculture, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, and successfully guided students leading to masters and PhD degree. Besides attending and presenting research papers in different national and international seminars, symposia and workshops, both in and outside the country, he has written more than 70 research papers that have been published in various national and international journals in different diverse agricultural and allied fields with special emphasis on application of statistics in these fields.

This paper back book was purchased for a 13 year ...

This paper back book was purchased for a 13 year old who is ADH D and has a reading disability. So far, he has been "looking " through the book and it seems to interest him enough to start reading it. That is a positive sign in our opinion.

Great reference book but also good for people new to cardiac surgery.

This book was such a good deal I couldn't help but add it to my library. I think it is well oriented to all persons (RNs, CRNA, CCPs) new to cardiac surgery. It focuses on all aspects of the surgical procedure and is well written. So easy to read and understand. Even after seven years I still reference it.

About the Author

John Paul Lederach has spent 15 years providing training and supporting peacebuilding in Colombia, Somalia, The Philippines, Nicaragua, and Northern Ireland. Director of Eastern Mennonite University's Conflict Transformation Program, he has conducted numerous research projects and published extensively.

Conflict transformation: crisis intervention and long-term radical strategy integrated into peacebuilding

One of Lederach's most useful revelations in assessing the work of third-party nonviolent interventionists -- from humanitarian workers to nonviolent direct-action trainers -- is the idea of an integrated framework for peacebuilding. Instead of always focusing on either crisis intervention or a future-to-come; instead of focusing on either a local issue or only visioning about addressing root causes, Lederach explores the role of transformation -- how to get from crises to radical change.

"We must ... think about the design of social change in time-units of decades, in order to link crisis management and long-term, future-oriented time frames," he writes. "We must understand crisis issues as connected to systemic roots ... [and] recognize the integrative potential of middle-range leaders, who by their locus within the affected population may be able to cultivate relationships and pursue the design of social change at a subsystem level."

This is a vital book for anyone exploring the theory and practice of nonviolent social change, as well as practitioners searching for a framework for their direct action praxis.

Truly cutting-edge

Lederach's work stands at the forefront of the emergent field of conflict transformation study. A professor at Eastern Mennonnite University, he also has extensive field experience. In "Building Peace", he focuses upon the necessity of constructing relationships across multiple social levels, de-emphasizing the role of political elites, and instead focusing both upon mid-level elites (bureaucrats, intellectuals, "influential" persons) and grassroots-level activism. He also stresses the need to develop long-range objectives, to delink expectations of short-term results from questions of involvement, and the need for implementation of training programmes to create what might be termed a "culture of peace" within the society: trained mediators indigenous to the society. In doing this, the hope is that the "parachute" problem of credibility (the idea that mediators are dropped from the above---IGO/foreign gouvernment, etc---and have no particular attachment to the conflict) may be reduced, and transformation of the conflict may be initiated.
Lederach's work is exceptionally lucid, and he draws upon a smorgasbord of substantive examples. Highly recommended.

i found this book to be very interesting particularly for people who are interested in how conflicts influence identity. it does not only provide theoretical analysis but also provides a framework for action in order to build peace in communities affected by internal conflict that involves identity issues.
