Excellent Travel Guide

If you plan to visit Florence, this guide will be very helpful.
Things that I liked about it:
1-A brief history of the city with a "timeline" to track the events period by period.
2-Introduction to the architecture and art in Florence which makes you familiar with too many terms and able to distinguish the architectural styles.
3-The areas of the city are divided into very elegant parts. It is written also which bus you should pick from the main station to the area that is described in the chapter.
4-The don't miss places are highlighted. It is mentioned also the opening and closing time of each place.
5-List of the good restaurants and cafes with rough estimate of the prices.
6-List of the good hotels with rough estimate of the prices.
7-Very helpful pull out city map with a transportation map.
8-Very helpful survival guide.

Very detailed and helpful with excellent illustrations

This is a highly informative guide to Tuscany and the city of Florence. It offers background information that helps the traveler understand more about the history of the sites they visit. There are sections on all the major churches and museums in Florence that help ensure that the visitor sees the major attractions. The city maps are good and the street finder was accurate. The background information on travel options, hotels, exchange rates, shopping, wines, buses, trains, neighborhoods, and emergencies was informative and helpful. The timelines were excellent and helped a traveler understand the historic events that lead to various developments and buildings. As in all the Eyewitness Travel Guides, the photographs and drawings are excellent and are very helpful. However, the guide is not perfect. It is bulky and a bit thick. Whereas the information is rich it is not easy to put into a pocket. Also, whereas the maps are very good, they are not easy to access while walking. My advice on the best way to use this guide is to buy it a month before going to Florence. Use it to plan your itinerary since it is very helpful in showing which museums, churches, bridges, gardens are next to each other so you plan a more efficient travel experience. I would also advise that you take it with you and keep it in your hotel room for reference in the morning before you go out and in the afternoon when you return and wish to reflect on all that you have seen and done. It is best to compliment this guide with a good street map that is easy to carry in your pocket for quick reference. This is a good guide, full of useful and interesting information but is a bit heavy and thick for quick use in the streets. Get a map for your daily excursions and keep this excellent guide in your hotel room for planning and reference.

Best travel guides ever!

I bought my first Eyewitness book on the recommendation of a friend and have never been disappointed. I've gone into book stores and perused the other travel guides and always gone back to Eyewitness. We always start our trips with the walking tours they include so we get a good idea of the lay of the land in the new city. I also love the fact that the entire book is done in color so when they tell you about a specific site they include a picture of it right next to the discription so you always know you're looking at the right thing. By far our favorite travel books!

About the Author
Ana C. Jarvis, a native of Paraguay, was born in Asuncion and attended school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in 1973. Presently an instructor of Spanish at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona, Dr. Jarvis previously taught at Mesa Community College, the University of California, Riverside, San Bernardino Valley College, Brigham Young University, and Riverside City College. In addition to authoring numerous Spanish textbooks, she has published several short stories in Spanish. In 1988, she was chosen "Faculty Member of the Year" at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

I may not need to take Spanish 104

I just finished a Spanish 103 class. The pages in the book we used tore easily. I needed a book that I could carry around to periodically review what I'd learned. This book is perfect. It covers what I learned in class and it presents a lot of new vocabulary and grammer in an interesting manner. Plus, it's sturdy and compact; easy to do exercises in a small amount of space. When I'm done, I'll definitely be prepared for Spanish 104.

Easy learning

This series is great for learning new languages.

I have used books from this series when seeking an introduction to new languages. I used this one for my intro to C++. Just like the other books, I was able to pick up the basics of the language by building fun little games and example programs that illustrate the concepts in plain and easy-to-understand language.

This series has been great for learning any language. This book is no exception, it is great.

If You Want To Be A Professional Programmer, Buy This Book

Once you have finished finding and correcting all the errors in this guy's code, you will be well prepared for the job. If you like this kind of task, Chapter Six should give you lots of fun! You will be glad you worked your way through this book, when you are on the job, looking at the crappy code of some programmer who no longer works there. Oh, to be even more realistic, the programs at the end of each chapter contain NO comments and they are NOT explained at all in the text. ENJOY!

Excellent book for beginner. It explains the basics of computer architecture and the concept of programming language in a very user-friendly and clear way. It also provides detailed step-by-step instructions for writing and running programs. Can't be better for beginner. The books also explains more complex concepts of programming, so it is good for medium level programmers too.

GREAT REFERENCE & INSTRUCTION

This book does everything and more. I have used this book to get closer to my boyfriend and he has opened up quite a bit, which was my objective. We always had good sex, but now he is more verbal about telling me how satisfied he is. I read the entire book starting at the beginning and then took bits of information and used them when we were together, having to return to the book to hone my skills, as it takes a little time to get everything right, but it's been amazing. I did not tell my boyfriend about the book, as I think he would have felt like I was mechanical in some way, which you did need to pay attention to, because in the beginning I think I was a bit mechanical and as I went back to the book, I became more natural and my boyfriend more satisfied. This is an excellent reference and will keep things fresh. I highly recommend it.

Seriously, the best book I have ever read on the the subject. Fun and exciting read cover to cover. I am on the brink of a new relationship with a man whom I believe to be pretty sexpirienced. After reading this book, I am going into this relationship with the confidence that I will be THE BEST HE HAS EVER HAD!

About the Author

Fred Hassan is a Partner and Managing Director with the private equity firm, Warburg Pincus. He is also Chairman of Bausch + Lomb, as well as board member of Time Warner and Avon where he became non-executive chairman on January 1, 2013. Hassan is the former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Schering-Plough Corporation. Prior to joining Schering-Plough in April 2003, Hassan was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pharmacia Corporation—a company that was formed in March 2000 as a result of the merger of Monsanto and Pharmacia & Upjohn. Hassan joined Pharmacia & Upjohn as Chief Executive Officer in 1997. Previously, Hassan was Executive Vice President of Wyeth, formerly known as American Home Products, with responsibility for its pharmaceutical and medical products business. He was elected to Wyeth's Board of Directors in 1995. Earlier in his career, Hassan spent 17 years with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis) and headed its U.S. pharmaceuticals business.

Hassan received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology at the University of London and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Guideposts to Success : Again and Again !

The Pharmaceutical Industry is among the most complex and competitive industry's in the world. Global success requires great study as well as a leadership style that has everyone working together as a team toward common objectives. Fred gives us examples as to the challenges he solved both in the U.S. and abroad.

Good Executives can be justly proud of having accomplished a turnaround once in their careers. What is extraordinary about this man is he has done it many times- not by being isolated in the executive suite but by working side by side with his colleagues. I first met Fred at Sandoz - ( one of the legacy companies that later formed Novartis) and watched him transform the culture at this medium sized company into a top performing company in the industry.

The Industry needs future leaders who learn by doing . They should follow closely what steps Fred took to become a leader everyone would respect and follow. A must read for middle management who want to take the next step up!
